Meet the Cast
Lemon | CODY HOLCOMB* Cody Holcomb is a fourth-year undergraduate at the University of Iowa studying English Education and Theatre Arts. His most recent roles include Jerry in And Tell Sad Stories of the Death of Queens for the Iowa Director’s Festival, and Austin/Charlie in Flashes. Cody is ecstatic to be playing Lemon in A Urinal Play. Cody is excited to take on this character, especially since he and Lemon are completely different, or at least he hopes so. Cody likes to think he can hang out with anyone and does his best to be his best self. Lemon, on the other hand, would probably come up with 10 different but creative ways to call you a sack of pee the first time he meets you. That said, Cody can see a little bit of himself inside Lemon (ew, that sounds weird. You know what I mean). Like Lemon, Cody cares so deeply about his friends that he would do just about anything to protect them and their time together. He also really enjoys going to the bathroom! In fact, there’s a good chance that he is probably in the bathroom right now as you read this. Outside of theatre, Cody works at Hancher Auditorium as a Front of House Manager (is that peak American Male Excellence?), and he is currently completing his second Practicum at West High School before he student teaches next semester. He would like to thank his friends and family for their constant love and support, and his roommates for waiting up for him after rehearsals (most of the time). He hopes you enjoy the show! |
Grapefruit | RALEIGH SMITH* Raleigh is a first-year English and Creative Writing student at Iowa. Pretty cool guy, honestly; when he isn’t academically overworking himself, he enjoys playing guitar, reading, and thinking about anything but his studies. Previous credits of his include dramaturgy and general crew assistance with Des Moines Playhouse’s productions of The Mousetrap and Noises Off. Now he’s in the freaking thing. I know, right? Now I hear big name directors—I’m talking BIG names—chirping about Raleigh here and there, interested in giving him a call. Just heard it through the grapevine. Or rather, the Grapefruit-vine? Anyways, he has had a great time working on his debut role as Grapefruit and hopes you enjoy, too. |
Lime | ZACH NEIFING* Zach Neifing is a first-year undergraduate student at the University of Iowa studying English Education. Zach’s bladder is filled to the brim with excitement to play Lime in A Urinal Play! It also might just be pee, but it’s the thought that counts <3. You may have seen him previously in nothing. First year. Pay attention. This is Zach’s second show involving urination and shitting – though only one of the two was intentional. Similarly, Zach has dedicated his blood, sweat, and other various secretions to this show, and has made the floor quite sticky in doing so. Sorry! His performance is greatly inspired by the bond he has with his two best friends back home, both of whom he would like to, metaphorically, pour one out for as they are stuck attending college in Ohio. Zach would also like to thank the Chicago Bears, Coors, Wingstop, and other manly accoutrements that make his friends forget that he’s acting in a play. Most of all though, he would like to thank the cast and crew of A Urinal Play for making this an amazing first production. Or maybe not. He wrote this two weeks before the show opened – anything can happen! Schrödinger’s pee. Finally, he hopes you enjoy the show! |
Pear | ELIZABETH NIEMAN* Elizabeth is a fourth-year student at Iowa, double majoring in theatre and education. She loves the workshop program within the Theatre department here deeply and is grateful for every opportunity to collaborate with talented, zany, and overall delightful undergraduate students. This is also Elizabeth’s first time using a urinal; life takes you awesome and strange places sometimes. Thanks to Ephram, Jackson, and Luke for the opportunity to be a “real POS” in a play about urinals; she considers it a real honor. To quote the fearless playwright, “Men talk over everybody. Consider not listening.” |
Apricot | LUCAS ROSS* Lucas is a first-year undergraduate and is attending the University of Iowa to study Vocal Performance and Music Theatre. This is his first production with the Theatre Program, and he is very excited! Apricot gets beat up in this play, quite extensively one might add. This is not reflective of Lucas Ross' life whatsoever. If anything, Lucas is usually the one doing the beating, so he's excited to see it from the other perspective. It's also very likely that most of the audience will be watching the show just to see Lucas Ross get fake-beat-up. Retribution... vengeance even, it will be a beautiful spectacle for all the people that Lucas Ross has personally wronged! Yes, Lucas Ross is a "bad person", but this is not a bad show; some may even call it good! So, come watch the show and see the audience and cast handle Lucas Ross in a violent physical manner! |
Voice | TYLER ANDREW* Tyler is a 5th year undergraduate at the University of Iowa studying economics with a minor in theatre. Tyler was last seen in the new play festival production of Bears Bears Bears Bears Bears, and previously in the Ten Minute play festival and Romeo and Juliet. Tyler is very excited to be in this production of a Urinal play because “He has been using the bathroom as long as he can remember.” Tyler would like to thank his family, friends, cast members and crew who have supported him in this production. |
Restroom Attendant | KEN VAN EGDON* Ken would like to thank everyone who has supported him throughout this process, and reminds everyone that the best friendships sometimes begin in the least likely of locations. And if you take nothing else from this experience, remember: there are few problems in life that cannot be improved by taking a moment, sitting down, and reconsidering your choices. Please, for the love of God, wash your hands. |
Grape | CLARA CARRION* Clara is a second-year neuroscience student at the University of Iowa. This is her first production at the university, and she couldn’t be more thrilled about being in A Urinal Play, playing the naive newcomer, Grape. When she isn’t at a urinal, she enjoys journaling, practicing photography and rewatching her favorite flicks. She is very grapeful for the opportunity to live out her theatrical dreams with this wonderful cast and crew, and would like to thank everyone that helped her get here! |

Meet the Creative Team
Playwright / Director | EPHRAM SINNWELL* Ephram Sinnwell is a “doing his best” fourth-year at the University of Iowa studying Theatre Arts on the trying to graduate track. (JK, he acts and writes and has fun doing it) Some recent productions you may have seen him in at UIowa include Uncle Vanya, Romeo & Juliet, Far Away, and Marie Antoinette. Mounting a professional collegiate production has been Ephram’s 4-year goal and he’s feeling incredibly lucky to have been able to do it with such talented cast and crew, NONE of which knew what they were signing up for when they got involved with the production. But that’s how it goes sometimes! Sometimes you flush a toilet and instead of the water going down it goes up! And then you gotta figure out what to do! And that’s a pretty damn good metaphor for theater. Ephram would like to thank his best friends and collaborators Jackson Knefley and Luke Garcia, the entire cast and crew of the production, as well as his parents, Ryan and Lindsey, who have really helped him through this tumultuous time in his life. |
Director | JACKSON KNEFLEY* Jackson is a fourth-year Theatre Arts major. Typically a scenic designer for the department, this is Jackson’s first time directing! Can you tell? No, definitely not. Jackson loves using the restroom and has for the past 21 years! Enjoy the show! |
Fight / Intimacy Coordinator | CRISTINA GOYENECHE |
Stage Manager | LUKE GARCIA Luke is a fourth-year cinema and screenwriting student. This is Luke’s first time stage managing (it’s also the first show he’s worked on period, eek!). Luke is honored to help make this restroom spectacle a reality. He would like to thank his mom and dad for teaching him how to use the restroom at an early age, as well as the plastic toilet who made it all possible. |
Costume Coordinator | HANNA ANDERSON Hanna Marie Anderson is a third-year Theatre Arts student on the Musical Theatre track. You may remember her as Pamela from the University's spring '26 production of Head Over Heels. Typically, she's one of the weirdos up on stage but lucky for you, she has been crowned Costume Queen of the Latrine! She is so excited for you to see this show she could pee her pants. literally. I hope your wipes are flushable cuz you're gonna need em! LFGGGGG #sittinontha'toilet #nowflush

Sound Designer | ROWAN KOEHLER* Rowan Koehler is flushed with excitement to be a part of A Urinal Play’s world premiere. While this is his first time sound design and board operating, Rowan had the incredible opportunity to write and direct another undergrad-led production, MY BRAIN TELLS ME I LOVE YOU, last winter. They feel very fortunate to be entrusted with selecting the beeps and flushes that will hopefully make you feel like you’re standing at a urinal of your own, alongside these fruity gentlemen. Rowan would like to extend their immense gratitude to the show’s co-directors, Ephram Sinnwell and Jackson Knefley, as well as the stage manager, Luke Garcia. These guys have been a blast to work with and I wholly believe that listening to Ephram’s A Urinal Play[list] in the McDonalds parking lot with them made these sound cues what they are. |
Lighting Designer | TOMMY FERGUSON* Tommy is a third-year undergrad student at the University of Iowa, studying theatre arts. Some recent productions he’s worked on include the Illinois Shakespeare Festival, the university workshop All That Glitters, and the Iowa New Play Festival. Tommy is excited to be the lighting and media designer for A Urinal Play and to be working with this incredible cast and crew. As always, thanks to the production team, faculty, and especially Bryon for helping with this super awesome production, someday we’ll name a theater after you. |
Assistant Stage Manager | ISAIAH SOMERS* Isaiah is a first-year student at the University of Iowa studying Neuroscience on the pre-med track. Originally from Wisconsin, Isaiah has been involved in theatre for several years, with experience both onstage and behind the scenes. He previously worked as a stage manager and student director throughout high school and is excited to continue growing his passion for technical theatre at Iowa. Through his experiences in theatre, he has developed many valuable skills and would like to thank the theatre department for this amazing opportunity. |
Media Operator | ADA McGLYNN Ada Marie McGlynn is currently in her first year of Theatre Arts at the University of Iowa! “A Urinal Play" will be her second show board operating and is thrilled to be a part of theproduction team. She is recently known for being a board operator for “In Which A Time Traveler Attempts to Pay His Rent.” Ada thanks those around her for always supporting and encouraging her. |

Director's Note
Hello all few of you who stumbled upon our directors note! This is Jackson and Ephram’s hive mind speaking. We first want to thank you for deciding to see our play. We’ve been best friends since our first discussion of freshmen year. Now seniors, having taken many classes together and shared many beers, we decided to put our two brain cells together to create this monster. Ephram wrote the play with an initial workshop happening in May of 2025. The play then underwent much plastic surgery and resurfaced for The University of Iowa’s Undergraduate Playwrights Workshop in March 2026. After that reading of the script, Ephram turned to Jackson and said, (I think verbatim?) “You took Directing I and to direct a workshop here you have to have taken Directing I which I have not. Will you direct my play?” And the rest is history!
We’re very excited to bring A Urinal Play to MacVey theatre. This project has been an insane ride to work on, WAY more work than either of us ever anticipated, but we hope it was all worth it. A Urinal Play dives into themes of male friendship, toxic masculinity, poop and pee, power structures, employee exploitation, and growing up, as well as probably a bunch more that you will find that we didn’t even think of! Throughout the process the most spoken thing was the word “fuck.” The second most spoken thing was Jackson and Ephram saying “Guys, we have no idea what we’re doing.” But maybe we actually did know what we’re doing? Maybe we really knew what we were doing? That’s for you to decide and for us to find out. Thank you again for supporting UIowa’s undergraduate playwrights, and we hope you enjoy the show!
Flushed with immense gratitude,
Jackson Knefley & Ephram Sinnwell
