"The Book’s the Thing: Grant Wood’s Book Covers," by Paul C. Juhl

Paul C. Juhl is a graduate of the University of Iowa, Iowa City, with majors in history and education; holds a master’s Degree in College Student Personnel Work from the University of Northern Iowa and has completed additional graduate work at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley. He is a retired educator (teacher, counselor and administrator) in public and private schools in Iowa and Switzerland and earned Iowa High School Counselor of the Year, 1997. Juhl is a collector of photographic images from the later decades of the nineteenth century resulting in a large collection (1600) of stereographs, carte de visite, and cabinet cards now housed at the State Historical Society of Iowa, Iowa City, and donated to this organization several years ago. He has authored fourteen spiral bound books dealing with Iowa history including topics concerning the grandchildren of Abraham Lincoln, author MacKinlay Kantor, actress Sarah Bernhardt, Frank Lloyd Wright and Herbert Hoover. He has conducted extensive research on the artist, Grant Wood, with spiral bound book titles of Grant Wood’s Clear Lake Summer, Grant Wood: Abandoned Plans, and Grant Wood and the Iowa State Fair.

Ben Stahle lives in Solon and graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Environmental Science. He’s also interested in local history, art, and photography.
