A UI alum sets a Hancher stopover on his ongoing The Marthaodyssey.
Jesse Factor earned an MFA in dance at the University of Iowa and danced with the Martha Graham Dance Company. His solo work, The Marthaodyssey, joyfully journeys through a series of productive tensions: authenticity versus artifice, stark minimalism against dazzling spectacle, high modernist rigor colliding with pop confection. Deeply inspired by Martha Graham—the “High Priestess of Modern Dance”—and Madonna—the “Queen of Pop,”—Factor forges a celebratory hybrid where discipline meets excess and devotion flirts with diva.
