This concert is free and open to the public. 

The Jazz Repertory Ensemble, directed by Prof. Curtis Taylor, presents an evening celebrating the music of legendary bandleader and pianist Count Basie. The program will feature selections primarily from Basie’s 1968 album Basie Straight Ahead, showcasing the swinging rhythms, blues-inflected melodies, and signature big-band sound that defined the Basie Orchestra.

Please join Johnson County Landmark (JCL) for their opening concert of the 2026-27 school year – which features the music of modern jazz composer Jacob Mann. Mann represents one of the most potent compositional voices in contemporary jazz, and reflects a musical esthetic a bit “closer to home” for our ensemble student’s own generation. As such, this concert will feature a glimpse of what is happening in big band jazz right now as we speak. Part jazz, part funk, part electronic dance music (EDM)...

Our Jazz Studies faculty members host a monthly community jazz jam session, joined by students, alumni, community members, and musicians passing through Iowa City.

All members of the community are welcome for this free community event, hosted the first Tuesday of each month during the school year at Tavern Blue.
